CHAKIN - cleaning cloth made of linen

Chakin are small, white wipes made of pure linen in a very special weave. They are very absorbent and elastic, making them ideal for wiping out tea bowls. They are used in the tea ceremony to clean the tea bowl. These small, inconspicuous cloths are a product that cannot be replaced by anything else in the tea ceremony next to the chasen. With careful care (wash out cold immediately after use) a chakin can be used for a long time. The best Chakin has been produced in a small village near Nara since ancient times. They got their white colour by bleaching them in the sun by placing the cloths on the stony shores to dry in the sun.
The dimensions of these cloths vary from tea school to tea school. We sell a standard size, which is mainly used in the Urasenke.
