KENSUI - used water jar

In the tea ceremony the Kensui is used to collect the used water from preheating the tea bowl or after cleaning the bowl. The most traditional form consists of a bronze vessel, as used in ancient religious rituals. Less formal are Kensui made of ceramics. Here there are no limits to the imagination. The Kensui just has to lie well in the hand and be big enough to collect enough used water. Some Kensui made of ceramics are small works of art.
